The power of a clear and compelling vision

JONNY ROMAN

Back in April of 2015 I wrote a 4 page vision for the career I wanted.

I asked for a career “in which I am completely fulfilled with the work I am doing, where I am experiencing a tremendous amount of joy and contentment and feeling that I am adding to the sum totally of positivity on the planet on a daily basis.”  I also wrote about a career that provided tremendous flexibility and “unlimited income potential.”  I even wrote about how I loved my office and my desk with lots of drawers, and a large surface area, made of dark wood, and is beautiful, and earthy and unique.

I just read through it in November 2021 and 95% of it came true.

Who the hell was I to ask for so many things in a career?  Who was I to get so specific with my requests?  At the time, I had no idea what this career was going to be. I had some ideas, but really didn’t know how I was going to create it.  And yet here I am, 6 years later, and it’s almost all true.

That is the power of creating a clear and compelling vision.  The bible says “where there is no vision, the people perish.”  Tony Robbins says “Clarity is Power.”

The interesting thing is that I wrote this and never looked at it again until today.  It’s not what I would recommend.  In fact, quite the opposite. The most valuable visions are the ones you look at daily, that are so clear in your minds eye they already feel like they’ve already occurred.

However, it’s clearly not required. I didn’t look at this once after it was written, and it still came true.  My subconscious mind knows what I truly want.

Granted, had I focused on this every day, perhaps it would have occurred even quicker.

Who knows?  But it doesn’t matter.  The vision I wrote would have been beautiful to have in 10, 20, or 30 years from now. Most people don’t ever have the kind of career that they’re thrilled with. And this occurred within 4-5 years from when I wrote it.

Never underestimate the power of a clear and compelling vision.

But how do you create one? Here are the 5 guidelines for writing a clear and compelling vision:

  1. Write it in the present tense, as though it’s already occurred

  2. Write about what you have, not what you don’t have or no longer have

  3. Use vivid and descriptive language

  4. Make it at least 50% believable

  5. Give yourself permission to listen to your soul’s calling and go for your dreams!

  6. Be detailed and specific

  7. Write for at least 1 full page

As my wife loves to say “Ask for what you want, not what you think you can get.”  By making it 50% believable, that means it can be 50% unbelievable. We so often restrict ourselves to what we think is possible, and end up missing out on what is actually possible.

Don’t hold back on your vision.  Spend time with this. Don’t rush it. Create some quiet space where you can sit and write without distraction. Maybe light a candle, and create an intention of creation and expansion.

Now is the time to generate great ideas for YOU and your future.  It’s time to write the chapter of your future, so you know where you’re heading.

Ready?

Begin.
